José Alamá Gil became musical director of the Banda del Centre Artistic Musical de Bétera in 1979 and has won many awards with this fine symphonic band. His two part concert piece for symphonic band 'Aspectes' was very successful at the 1998 international contest 'Certamen' at Valencia. The first part 'Antigua danza de palas y planchas' (old dance with sticks and plates) starts with an introductory adagio followed by a lively allegretto interrupted by another quiet adagio. The second part 'La Romeria' (the pilgrimage ) starts with a dynamic allegro vivo followed by a lyrical andante introduced by bell ringing. The driving allegro vivo starts again when the pilgrims start their journey back home. The orchestration is strikingly refined. This is a very beautiful melodic concert piece for symphonic band.
