Pressure and the Ticking Clock
It all starts here II
Everyone is familiar with the phenomenon of the deadline, that dreaded moment when a task that has been started
must be completed. Whether it concerns elite athletes who must peak on the day, sometimes even the very second,
of the competition, or the timely delivery of a manuscript to a publishing house, a task the composer fulfills
with varying success, the pressure increases as the appointed date draws nearer.
At times, a moment of calm presents itself; the bow cannot remain taut at all times. Before long, however, the proverbial alarm clock sounds, abruptly waking the dreaming performer and making it clear that time is running out.
The music expresses this sense of mounting urgency and tension, on the way to the next deadline.
