Paul Hindemith erhielt vom neunten Lebensjahr an Musikunterricht und studierte bereits 1909 am Konservatorium in Frankfurt Komposition und Geige. Hindemith ist dem Amateurmusiker immer mit Sympathie begegnet. Er schrieb beispielsweise einige Werke für Blasorchester. In 1946 schrieb er seine „Symphonia Serena“, von der Juan Vte. Mas Quiles den „Geschwindmarsch von Beethoven“ für Harmonieorchester arrangierte.
