Donkey Serenade

Rudolf Friml studied composition with Antonin Dvoràk at the conservatory of music of his native town. He settled in the United States of America in 1906 after having spent already five years in the States as pianist of the violin virtuoso Jan Kubelik. Friml is famous because of a number of his operettas such as 'Rose Marie' (1923) and 'The Vagabond King' (1925). The most popular Donkey Serenade is an extract from his operetta 'The Firefly' (1912). This song was even to become more popular when 'The Firefly' was turned in to the movie picture 'The Castilian Spy' by Robert Leonard in 1937.
