GEIRR TVEITT (1908-1981) had his roots in the district of Hardanger in Westem Norway which is widely known for the pittoresque landscape with waterfalls, fjords, mountains, farms and villages scattered along the ijord and hillsides as well as the folklore like the Hardanger-fiddle with its special sound due to sympathetic strings below the fingerboard. This nature is part of Tveitts roots, however, his musical palette has its very own Tveitt-colour setting which just as well can be related to European musictradition. Tveitt received his musical education in Leipzig, Paris and Vienna. Besides taking his composistion classes, he also took Iessons in every instrument so he could sort ofknow them from the inside. He managed fairly well to play them all. This might be one of the reasons of developing his highly personal palette of colourful instrumentation. Geirr Tveitt suffered a terrible blow a decade before his death when his home and most of his music were destroyed by fire. Thanks to the effort ofhis family and fellow musicians, his vivid sound world is now beeing rediscovered. DO NOT WASTE SLEEP AWAY THE SUMMERNIGHT This song is one of Norways most beloved songs, and the lyrics is about the light Norwegian summer.night.
