Chisa is a slang expression from the Zulu word ‘shisa', which means burning or hot. Young South Africans would normally translate it as hot stuff! Swahili is a Bantu language mainly spoken in East Africa. The composer of Chisa is the South African jazz pianist Abdullah Ibrahim. Ibrahim left South Africa from 1976 to 1990, when he lived in Switzerland and USA as an exile from the apartheid regime in South Africa. Chisa is a wedding and festivity song, first published on Ibrahim's recording African River in 1989.
